Discovering DPR Live's album HER

After releasing their first mini-album in early 2017 titled 'Coming to You Live', DPR Live released HER the second EP. I've been putting 'To myself', the 7th track on their first mini-album, on repeat so I decided to give DPR Live's other music a try. I was not disappointed. DPR Live proved that he can make songs that have a diverse atmosphere.

HER

Genre: Hip-Hop, R&B

Tracklist:

1. Your Name? (Intro)

2. Jasmine

3. Text Me

4. Is You Down

5. Martini Blue

The intro 'Your name?' starts us off with an ambiance of faint voices, a crowd of people, and faint tunes and ending with him asking HER her name. It served as a perfect appetizer. Immediately right after I get mellow when I listened to 'Jasmine'. Jasmine has a melancholy tone that mixed well with DPR Live's rap. As expected from Code Kunst who produced this song. This is right along his line. Speaking of certain things mixing well, we have been blessed once again by DPR Ian his visuals on the music video. He never disappoints from the color grading to the transitions.

DPR Live's rap gets brighter and more relaxed in 'Text me'. It is a contrast to 'Jasmine'. The sound is calm but DPR Live's rap is more on the brighter and upbeat side, merging beautifully. The sound is produced by DPR Cream. I really liked the various texting sound effects throughout the song, it helped with the context for the song.

His album does not slow down when we get to 'Is you down'. This one was more on the R&B side with a catchy chorus of him trying to court HER. The last track on the album is 'Martini Blue'. I like to thank Scott Kim for producing this song, this album wouldn't be complete without it T^T. DPR Live's flow in Martini Blue has to be my favorite in the album at this moment in time.

I'm glad I was able to discover this side of hip-hop cause it is what got me back into the genre. I was getting a little tired of the oversaturated market of bitches and money. It was nice in the beginning to have some easy-to-swallow music you can bop your head to cause not everything has to be deep or have some double meaning to it but it was starting to feel like that's all there is to the genre. So I'm looking forward to looking up more of this side of hip-hop not only from DPR but also other artists in whatever language I can find.
